Case for Change
Marin and Sonoma County Democrats have an important decision to make on March 2, 2004:
  • Continue the current culture of "small politics,"
    • Over react to everything Republican,
    • Fixate on the progressive vs. ultra-right debate,
    • Continue to be defensive about Democratic Party interests,

    Or

  • Decide its time to change our leadership and make a difference.
I'm a rank and file Democrat with the proven ability to find common ground, propose innovative ideas, and solve problems. I will:
  • Work with other Democrats and Republicans to solve problems,
  • Be a strong federal partner for Sonoma and Marin Counties,
  • Develop bi-partisan coalitions to help the Democratic Party regain its essential role in Congress.
We have a difficult task ahead challenging what some call the "safest" seat in Congress. But if we're successful, we'll shake the foundation of the Democratic Party for the better and help change the debate in Congress from one of extreme ideology and partisanship to focusing on our ideals and demanding problem solving statesmanship from our leaders.

Join us and make a difference on March 2, 2004.

Thank you for your support!

Renn Vara

Why now?
  • Recent historical events demand that Marin and Sonoma County citizens send a new Democratic face with innovative ideas to Capitol Hill. Our nation needs our district's effective leadership, passion, and progressive voice unencumbered by political and partisan exclusion.
  • Marin and Sonoma Counties deserve a Member of Congress who impacts federal decisions and actively works with city, county, and state officials to bring federal money home.
  • A strong message needs to be sent to the Democratic Party and Congress that Marin and Sonoma Counties will no longer be taken for granted. We will not remain marginalized.

Why Renn Vara?
  • He's free of any political entanglements or constraints. Renn brings common citizen's sensibility to solving problems and serving the needs of Marin and Sonoma Counties.
  • He's experienced with how Congress works from the staff level having worked on the Hill for four years in the 1980's.
  • His real life experiences - working on the Hill, serving homeless families in New York City, and building a business and raising a family - have molded Renn into a socially progressive and fiscally conservative citizen.
  • Having been raised in the rural South, Renn understands the polarized debate from both perspectives and can effectively communicate the progressive agenda of Sonoma and Marin Counties.
